Background: The File --> New dialog, like most other dialogs in NX5+, retains the last used selections on dialogs and saves these in a file called "DialogMemory.dlx" in the user's NX profile directory.
Therefore, if the unit option was set to Millimeters the last time a part file was created, that will be the selection retained for subsequent part files [and subsequent sessions if NX is restarted with that setting].
Problem: The dialogs in NX Manufacturing cause the DialogMemory.dlx file to grow in size from just a few KB to several MB. NX will parse through this file when looking for the last used selection (regardless of module) and will therefore respond slower over time as this file grows in size.
Solution: You can periodically delete (or rename) the DialogMemory.dlx file located in the user's profile directory.
Exit NX and browse to the user's NX profile directory:
Windows: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Unigraphics Solutions\NX5\
Linux: $HOME
(or the location pointed to by the environment variable UGII_USER_PROFILE_DIR)
Delete [or Rename] the DialogMemory.dlx file.
Alternatively, you can turn OFF the ability for NX to save the last used selections on dialogs; In the Customer Defaults, Gateway --> User Interface --> General tab --> toggle off Save Dialog Box Settings Between Sessions. NOTE: The final solution will be included in NX 7.5 scheduled for delivery Q2 2010; PR 6169862
